Just on the way...

back from Mary's cafe. Our friends are opening a cafe in Newsome, Va. and they ask to hang my paintings there. So I am humbled to think that someone else thinks that they are good.

So...

I said I would tell you about the Farmers Wife Sampler Quilt. In 1922 the Farmers wife magazine ran a contest with the question "would you want your daughter to marry a farmer" to their 750,000 subscribers. They had 7000 entries. Laurie Aaron Hird took these letters and they inspired her to make 111 blocks for the quilt. The blocks are only 6x6.

I started mine on December 10, 2011 and I finished the last block on January 19, 2012. I am now putting it together and I am loving how it it is turning out. There are flicker and yahoo groups of hundreds of women doing this quilt. They are doing it in all kind of colors and styles. I choose to make mine more true to the 1922's like the book. This is only my 2nd quilt and I am totally hooked.

I always wanted to learn....

how to quilt. The senior center that I take art classes at also offers a quilt class. I joined in September and I started my first quilt. This class teaches everything by hand, no sewing machine. I decided to make it in red of course and aqua (my new favorite colors). The first one you make is a a sampler quilt so this is mine. By thanksgiving I had it ready to sandwich together. It is now on my quilting frame and I am quilting it all by hand. Wish me luck!

Where has the time gone.....

I know it has been months since I have updated.....

So much has gone on. Steve had a major health scare on New Years Eve. We thought he was having a heart attack it turned out to be a blood clot in his lung. He spent 5 days in the hospital half of it in ICU. They had changed his medication for his AFIB and it didn't prevent the clot. He is now back on cumatin and having his blood checked weekly. We are thankful he is better. I was really scared for him and I realized that I would be lost without him.

So that's we bought in the New Year I hope yours was better. So here's to a healthy and happy 2012

So long since.....

I posted. I just got back from Knoxville, Tennessee where all of my family lives. One of my favorite uncles passed away. Uncle Buddy was one of the reasons I went into the navy. We always went to their house for summer vacation because he was in the navy and always lived near a beach, some of my fondest memories are with my 4 cousins at their house. It was a wonderful celebration of live and I would not have missed it for the world. I got to see all of my family and that was great. My nephews wife Whitney was pregnant with their second child. On that Saturday she went into to premature labor at 34 weeks. She went into the hospital at five and by 8 she was at eight centimeters but the hospital had some emergencies so they delayed her labor. At 2:30am they broke her water and 4 pushes little 5.5 lb Maylynn came into the world. She was healthy and they kept in the neo natal unit overnight to check out her breathing. I was so excited that they ask me to be there when she delivered, and on Sunday morning I got to go in and hold her before I came home. I also got to meet my Great niece Miss Bradlynn who is 10 months old while I was there. She is such a beautiful little girl and I loved spending time with her. I just finished her owl hat and cant wait to see her in it. I started art classes up again. I also was ask to be in a art show so I have two of my paintings from last year in a show right now. I also started a quilting class this year and I am working on my sampler quilt right now. Everything is done by hand and I can't wait to finish but I think that will be awhile. I hope to post more often but the time just seems to fly by when you're having fun!

for awhile. Since I'm not working now I have time to travel and go see relatives. I spent a week in Ohio decorating my sister-in-laws house for her. I did her bedroom for her for  $250.00. We were up there for the 4th and I threw some ideas out at her and she liked them so I told her I would do it for her. I did her bedroom Shabby Chic using her 1070's french provencial furnure that she still had. Can you believe it? She still had the dresser, night stand, chair and vanity and then someone she knew had the mirror that matched. The money was used on a quilt, sheets, shams and a swag I did above her mirror. We used everything we could find and I have to say I loved the way it turned out. Steve's mom is moving in and I am going to do her bedroom for her also.

 

It was a combined trip the week before Steve's nephews wife had her third baby a girl Olivia Grave and she only weighted 5.5 pounds and 18 inchies long. So little so of course I had to go get my hands on her. I crocheted the cutest hats for her. I hope she grows into them. LOL 

I did a photo session with her brother and sister and I forgot what its like to try and photograph kids!

This is Kaylee and Brandon and they love Olivia. They really had a good time Brandon is four and all boy. Kaylee is eight and so pretty and smart. I really enjoyed spending time with them.

Creative Escape 2011

I just got back on Sunday from Phoenix where I attended the last Creative Escape.
This is my friend Patty and Chris and we are wearing the fashionators I made for us to wear for the event. Everyone makes and wears something different. We had a great time and did some great projects.

I got up Saturday with really red eyes and I couldn't focus or see very well. This has continued since Saturday so I went to the doctor today...........Pinkeye. I haven't been able to turn on any lights in the house and I've been wearing sun glasses I feel like Stevie Wonder.  I want to do something but can't see to do it.

Scrapping again....

finally. I have been organizing and straightening the Scrappin Shed and Studio for weeks now. My husband said that I would be doing that for ever so I should start doing something else. So I took his advice and started scrapping instead. I haven't scrapped in a long time so I decided to start off slowly and work on kits I had ordered off of the shopping channels. I had this kit that I got off QVC and it was like 30 something 2 page spreads already kitted up and you just put them together. I did my HS tattered angels Christmas book from awhile back, my Creative Escape book from last year, a cute coaster book and I made a cute 4th of July banner for my fireplace. (pictures to follow) I am really enjoying not working and I find that I had no idea how I ever had time to work. LOL

So long since I blogged...

on here. Where does the time go? I wish I knew.

This is Steve and I at the luau at the Hale Koa the military hotel on Waikiki Beach. We had a great time with my brother Eddie and his wife Jerri. We did a lot of things and saw a lot of the island. My half brother was sick most of the time and only joined us for a couple of things. 

Steve and I went on a whale watching cruise and saw not one whale, but took pictures of postcards and told my brother that we did and he believed us for about a minute. NOT We went to the luau at the hotel and it was fabulous. We stayed right on the beach and could walk over to the shops at the Hilton. We also went shopping at a lot of designer shops (Tiffany's, Coach, Kate Spade and Louie) We enjoyed looking and even bought a few things. I got a pretty ring at coach and a iphone cover at Kate Spade.

We took some tours of the island and saw where the new movie with Carrie Underwood was shot. We also saw where Elvis shot Blue Hawaii. The beach's there are awesome and we saw some neat things. Between my bother and I we took over 3000 pic. Going through them is unbelievable. I took my new Sony camera after debating on it for awhile because I wasn't real as  familiar with it but I took some amazing firework shots.

We really did have a trip of a life time and we loved spending with our family.
